What is Mushing?

Mushing or dog sledding is a sport where a dog or team of dogs utilize harnesses and other equipment to cooperatively with humans to travel. It combines teamwork between humans and their dogs and the beauty of nature, making it a unique outdoor experience.

How can I get involved in dog sledding?

To get involved in dog sledding, you can start by joining our local dog sledding club, participating in training sessions, and attending community events. We offer resources and support for beginners to learn the basics of mushing and dog care.

*Proper Equipment must be utilized when dog sledding, please look into our About section and enroll in our Intro to Dog Sledding course prior to participating in the sport.

What breeds are best for dog sledding?

Almost every breed of dog can be used to mush! Although traditionally husky and other nordic breeds excel at the sport any full grown and healthy dog can participate in the sport of dog sledding. We always recommend you consult with your veterinarian and our mentors if your unsure if your dog can participate.

Are there any events for beginners?

Yes, we host several clinics and events specifically designed for beginners. We recommend everyone enroll in our Intro to Dog Sledding course prior to starting and then attending fun races, and community gatherings to help prepare you and your pooch for the amazing sport of dog sledding.

Is Mushing/dog sledding only a winter sport?

No, it can be done almost any time of year in the mountains! Although the sports origins are based in the winter months utilizing large teams, dryland or spring-fall time training have since evolved into their own unique disciplines and sports.

*Regardless of when you mush, please remember that temperature and trails are major factors for canine health and safely participating. Anything above 15 degrees Celsius is to hot for dogs and avoid pavement and other hard surfaces to protect you and your dogs from serious injury!
